Don't Be Negative

Remember back in the day when you used film for photos?  You'd get only so many exposures, then you'd pop that little canister into an envelope and out to who knows where it went!  Then you waited.
One day, like magic, your photos would be in your hot little hands and you'd get to sift eagerly through them to see what you actually got.  In the time it took to get them back, you probably forgot what it was you sent in to begin with!  Forget knowing if you got that perfect shot either!  Who knew if Gramma was mid-sentence or Dad was mid-blink when you all tried to group together for that big birthday group shot.  Results varied and there was little control.  Yet somehow, the results were always exciting to find.
We grew up in a time of patience and limits.  We didn't even mind!  When I first took a photography class in high school and yet again in college, I was using film to learn.  I was developing images in a dark room with chemicals and special paper.  It was actually REALLY cool!  But, real talk here, I am an instant-gratification kinda gal so digital is my jam!  While I loved the process and magic of film photography, I can tell you with 100% certainty that I prefer my digital playground.  There is beauty to be had in both worlds and a special kind of talent and technical skill (and PATIENCE) are required of a film photographer for sure.
In film, you get to harness your creativity in the camera and in the dark room.  In the digital arena, we get to harness creativity in the camera and in the computer and for me.... there's a lot a fun in that!
Photography in any form is art.  Some of us like to work with people (yes please!) and some of us are phenomenal with capturing landscapes.  We get limitless takes as long as our gear is reliable and we get to push the limits of what the camera captures when we pop those images into our post processing software.  We may have a good photo right out of the camera, but we can change it in so many ways in our computers!  Gone are the days of the negative.  And while I do love a bit of nostalgia, I'm okay with that in my photography... and in my life.  There isn't a place for the negative.
Around here, there is room for support, encouragement, community, and lots of smiles!  Around here, there is room for hope, creativity, love and trial & error.  There is always another set to style, a sunset sky to gaze at, couples and families in love and pet noses to 'boop'!
Let this be a reminder that while the past has its beauty and warm memories, the present has its very own and the future holds endless possibility so don't be negative!  ;)
